VP of Public Relations

Role & Responsibilities

The Vice President of Public Relations is responsible for the strategic direction and execution of all marketing and communication efforts for PYP, ensuring the organization’s mission and initiatives are effectively communicated to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the strategist and analyst for all marketing and communications efforts of PYP, aligning messaging with organizational goals.
  • Develops and maintains the annual PYP Marketing & Communication Plan, as well as event and program-specific marketing plans, to enhance visibility and engagement.
  • Creates innovative strategies to effectively reach target audiences and engage them with PYP’s mission and activities.
  • Produces regular digital content, including blog posts, videos, and social media updates, to promote PYP and its initiatives.
  • Oversees the Communications Committee and supervises the Chair of Social Media, the Chair of Communications, and the Chair of Design, providing direction and support for their efforts.
  • Manages the marketing@pensacolayp.com email, ensuring effective communication and outreach to members and the community.
  • Oversees the organization’s brand and ensures brand compliance across all platforms and materials.
  • Manages the organization’s social media accounts, website, and event management accounts, ensuring a consistent and engaging online presence.
  • Serves on the 4th of July Fireworks Committee, managing marketing and communication efforts for the event to maximize community participation and visibility (if applicable).

The Vice President of Public Relations plays a crucial role in enhancing PYP’s profile within the community, fostering connections, and promoting the organization’s impact and initiatives.

Responsibilities of the Board of Directors

The mission of Pensacola Young Professionals is to develop, retain, and connect young professionals to the community and each other. As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:

  • determining the mission and purposes of the organization
  • strategic and organizational planning
  • ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
  • fundraising and resource development
  • approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
  • enhancing the organization’s public image
  • assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization

Responsibilities of Individual Board Members

Each individual board member is expected to:

  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
  • Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
  • Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and can influence public policy
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
  • Regularly attend organizational events and provide assistance as needed
  • Participate fully in one or more committees
  • Attend and participate in all program meetings
  • Eagerly communicate with PYP members—new and established—to solicit their ideas and help them become/remain actively engaged in the organization
  • Raise any general membership matters at board meetings or to the President or President-Elect when necessary
  • Evaluate each event and program at its conclusion and provide feedback for improvement
  • Utilize PYP’s Slack channel for regular board communication
  • Download and become familiar with GlueUp to assist with attendee check-in as needed.

Selection Process

  • Submit Your Application
    Submit your application by the deadline to be considered for any of our positions. We’ll follow up to schedule your peer interview once applications close.
  • Peer Interview
    We’ll conduct peer interviews with a panel comprised of PYP leaders. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you as much as it is for you to get to know us.
  • Decisions
    Once the panel makes a decision you’ll receive a call with the results. If you’re offered a position, we invite you to join us at our next board meeting where we’ll vote to make it official.
  • Board Meeting
    The board will vote to accept your nomination. After this meeting, we’ll reach out with next steps on your transition. We can’t wait to get started with you!
