President

Role & Responsibilities

The President of Pensacola Young Professionals presides over all Board meetings and sets the agenda, overseeing both meeting structure and alignment with organizational priorities. Responsible for the organization’s master calendar, the President ensures PYP activities are coordinated smoothly and align with strategic objectives. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads and organizes monthly Board meetings, including agenda-setting and facilitation.
  • Maintains and oversees the organization’s master calendar, ensuring events and initiatives are aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Manages organizational systems and accounts, and handles purchasing as needed.
  • Oversees Board development and engagement, fostering a collaborative and inclusive Board culture.
  • Sets organizational goals for the year, ensuring they align with the strategic plan and tracking progress throughout the term.
  • Collaborates with the President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer to ensure annual reporting, budgeting, taxes, and other administrative tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Handles administrative duties, such as checking mail and addressing correspondence.
  • Manages the president@pensacolayp.com and info@pensacolayp.com emails and the PYP phone number through Google Voice, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact with the Greater Pensacola Chamber and serves on the Chamber’s Board of Directors (if applicable).
  • Chairs the annual 4th of July Fireworks planning committee, coordinating efforts to deliver a successful event (if applicable).

The President also serves as an ex-officio member of all committees and is entitled to vote on all matters presented to the Board.

Responsibilities of the Board of Directors

The mission of Pensacola Young Professionals is to develop, retain, and connect young professionals to the community and each other. As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:

  • determining the mission and purposes of the organization
  • strategic and organizational planning
  • ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
  • fundraising and resource development
  • approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
  • enhancing the organization’s public image
  • assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization

Responsibilities of Individual Board Members

Each individual board member is expected to:

  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
  • Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
  • Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing, and can influence public policy
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
  • Regularly attend organizational events and provide assistance as needed
  • Participate fully in one or more committees
  • Attend and participate in all program meetings
  • Eagerly communicate with PYP members—new and established—to solicit their ideas and help them become/remain actively engaged in the organization
  • Raise any general membership matters at board meetings or to the President or President-Elect when necessary
  • Evaluate each event and program at its conclusion and provide feedback for improvement
  • Utilize PYP’s Slack channel for regular board communication
  • Download and become familiar with GlueUp to assist with attendee check-in as needed.

Selection Process

  • Submit Your Application
    Submit your application by the deadline to be considered for any of our positions. We’ll follow up to schedule your peer interview once applications close.
  • Peer Interview
    We’ll conduct peer interviews with a panel comprised of PYP leaders. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you as much as it is for you to get to know us.
  • Decisions
    Once the panel makes a decision you’ll receive a call with the results. If you’re offered a position, we invite you to join us at our next board meeting where we’ll vote to make it official.
  • Board Meeting
    The board will vote to accept your nomination. After this meeting, we’ll reach out with next steps on your transition. We can’t wait to get started with you!
