The Chair of Communication leads PYP’s communication strategies, ensuring that all messaging is consistent, engaging, and aligned with the organization’s mission. This role plays a central part in creating content that connects with members, community stakeholders, and prospective sponsors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supports the Vice President of Public Relations in developing and implementing effective communication strategies.
- Produces weekly membership newsletters and monthly community newsletters to keep members and the public informed of PYP’s activities and opportunities.
- Writes and distributes press releases, presentations, and talking points as needed for organizational initiatives.
- Manages and updates website content to ensure information is accurate, relevant, and engaging.
- Creates blog posts that highlight PYP events, initiatives, and member achievements.
- Collaborates with the Chair of Social Media to develop consistent messaging across platforms.
- Assists event Chairs in writing event descriptions to accurately promote activities and engage members.
- Contributes to sponsorship and partnership packets by providing clear, persuasive content.
The Chair of Communication reports to the Vice President of Public Relations and serves on the Communications Committee, ensuring PYP’s messaging is clear, consistent, and compelling across all platforms.
Responsibilities of Chairs as Members of the Leadership Team
The mission of Pensacola Young Professionals is to develop, retain, and connect young professionals to the community and each other. Chair positions are a part of the leadership team, but are not voting members of the Board of Directors. Chair positions are entry-level positions designed to provide members with opportunities to get involved in the organization and learn more about the organization.
Each individual Chair is expected to:
- Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Participate fully in their committee and attend board meetings when called upon
- Prepare for and attend all program meetings
- Regularly attend organizational events and provide assistance as needed
- Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and assist with identifying financial resources, sponsorship opportunities, and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
- Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising and reputational standing
- Communicate with PYP members—new and established—to solicit their ideas and help them become/remain actively engaged in the organization
- Raise any general membership matters at committee meetings or to the President or President-Elect when necessary
- Evaluate each event and program at its conclusion and provide feedback for improvement
- Utilize PYP’s Slack channel for regular board communication
- Download and become familiar with GlueUp to assist with attendee check-in as needed.
