What’s Happening in PYP?

News

Each month, on the 3rd Monday, the Pensacola Young Professionals’ Board of Directors meets to discuss plans moving forward. In an effort to be more transparent and engage our membership, our Executive Director will be sharing updates and information from those board meetings moving forward.

August 2021 Organization Update

Each month, on the 3rd Monday, the Pensacola Young Professionals’ Board of Directors meets wherever we can find a quiet table with some wifi and make big plans for the future. These meetings are open to anyone wishing to attend and see how the cogs of the organization work, and we welcome input from our members. Largely though, these have been meetings only viewed by the active members of our leadership team.

Something I’ve wanted to do since before I entered this position was to shed a little more light on what actually goes on behind these doors and make it just a little more accessible for our members. Most nonprofit boards don’t do this. But then again, we’re not like most.

Without further ado, here’s what you missed at our board meeting this past Monday:

COVID-19 Response

Our leadership is dedicated to working together to ensure the safety of our members and encourage the safety of others in our community. We surveyed our membership on their comfort level of in-person event attendance and are working to ensure we offer opportunities for our members to continue to engage with PYP and our community through this (exhausting) next wave of the virus. Our membership is very much in favor of in-person events, and as such, we’ll be doing our best to continue with programming while also creating safe spaces. Our board voted to do the following:

All PYP events until September 18 will be capped at 30 registrants. Indoor events will be masked required. We’ll be working to create outdoor events as much as possible.

At our next board meeting, we’ll evaluate whether to continue, adjust, or cancel this decision moving forward.

Strategic Planning

PYP is undergoing a new strategic planning process that will help shape the organization for years to come. Our board is working with an outside facilitator to undergo the process of evaluating our current organizational goals, mission, and vision.

But we need your help! Your responses to our community survey will help us learn more about what our members and our community supporters want from our organization.

Upcoming Events & Programs:

August 21: Beach Cleanup will go on as scheduled. We’ve decided to postpone our membership appreciation lunch to a future date for the safety of our members. We can’t wait to celebrate our members in true PYP style!

August 25: Coffee & Conversation will go on as scheduled at Bodacious Brew. Make sure to register to receive any last-minute updates or changes.

August 26: Roundtable: Transitioning into a Leadership Role will be postponed to a future date. A number of our speakers were unable to be there in person due to COVID restrictions, and we know this will be a great event done in person.

August 27: Mentor Pensacola Applications are due by close of business. The application is short but a necessary step in this program. Don’t miss out!

September 9: September Networking Happy Hour location is To Be Determined at this time. Our networking team is working to find a shaded outdoor location to network while also being outdoors and safe! Keep an eye out for updates coming soon!

September 16: Investing in Your Future will occur via Zoom as originally planned. Details on this professional development seminar will be available next week.

September 21: Youth Peace Walk to observe International Day of Peace devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace through observing 24 hours of non-violence. We’ll create signs and walk for one hour to signify unity. We will release more information next week.

September 22: Trivia for a Cause will occur virtually to help benefit the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Details to be announced.

September 25: Legal Day for Kids will be postponed until it’s safe for our kids to enjoy this event mask-free.

September 28: Coffee & Conversation will likely go as planned. WTF Pensacola (“what to fix”) will be postponed.

There’s plenty more coming this fall so long as we don’t become a character in our favorite Fall Plans/Delta Variant memes…
